As the scams we encounter become more sophisticated, our methods of scam detection need to be improved. In a recent scam, a promising looking hyip posted an address and contact phone number. The rates of return were high, but not that high all things considered and I decided to take a punt. I had considered that the information posted on that site might have been bogus, but judging from the customer support and the speedy responses to emails that I got, I thought I would go out on a limb. I tested them with $50.
Later I saw a few posts on Golden Talk, claiming said HYIP was a scam. The LLC registration that it was claiming had expired. The NetIBA certificate was a phony and the MN address, when I did a reverse directory search of the U.S. Whitepages.com turned up some couple who have probably never even heard of http://www.williams-partners.com.
The fact is I should have been more careful. Of course I did a who is, but a who is search is not enough if we are going to risk our hard earned money. I am tired of giving money to scammers, but I think of it like this. No education is free, with every time I get scammed, I learn half a dozen valuable lessons. It is a risky game we play, but we can minimize the risks. So, don’t be lazy, check your information. Check the certificates that they claim to hold, don’t trust every forum post that you read and do your background research.
Unfortunately, even with all the background checking in the world, you can still get burned. Sometimes you have to go with your gut.

congrats on your virgin post! was editing the codes of showing the userid on the top when you posted this lol.
i’ve a question, is there ANYWAY to check the NetIBA certification? what benefits do we get if any sites is NetIBA certified and we do business with them?
You can sign up with NetIBA for free and that well tell you if they have a valid certificate or not. As for what we can really gauge from whether they have a valid certificate, I would say not much… If they have it, then chances are they are a legal internet business, they have had to give real details in order to obtain the certification. They can be tracked down in the event of criminal activity. Fraud is illegal, however, it is perfectly legal for a company to belly up…
If they have a NetIBA certificate, it is usually a good sign
the netiba thing looks really good, just installed the software and found gcisurf.com is verified
then again nothing is 100% safe ya? hehe
I think any certification is better than no certification and no certification is better than fake certification.
that’s a good way to deduce
