Although authorities are still mum concerning the reported federal investigation of Internet Gold Incorporated, lawyers for the Greenville-based business are scheduled to be in the Hunt County Courthouse next week regarding Internet Gold’s pending lawsuit against another company.
Emo Corporation is seeking a change in venue in the suit from Hunt to Travis County. A hearing on the issue is scheduled Jan. 18 in the 196th District Court.
Federal officials have so far not released details of why agents from the U.S. Secret Service and Federal Bureau of Investigation raided the company’s headquarters on the afternoon of Dec. 17 to serve a search warrant.
Greenville Police Department officers assisted with the serving of the warrant and Chief Harold Roseberry has only said the investigation involved allegations of fraud.
According to the company’s web site, Internet Gold Incorporated, based in Greenville, was founded in February, 2002. The company is described as a digital currency, online payment system and IntGold account processor. Internet Gold Incorporated also owns the InGoldcard ATM debit card system.
In October of 2005, Internet Gold filed a lawsuit against Emo Corporation, another e-currency company based in Austin. According to the suit, Emo experienced a security breach and identity theft on its web site when it was hacked by a German company.
Hundreds of Emo’s customers, according to the suit, experienced identity theft and monetary losses.
The suit alleges that officials with Emo blamed hackers who had instead infiltrated Internet Gold and caused the problems, sending e-mails to Internet Gold clients with the same message.
The initial suit sought an immediate temporary restraining order against Emo, preventing the company from contacting clients of Internet Gold, and seeking damages.
The request for the temporary restraining order was later dropped, although the suit itself remains pending.
Seemingly interesting, I didn’t know that EMO is involved
No updates on the hearing on 18th as yet, will update should there be any headsup.
