Everyone talks about Due Diligence all the time when it comes to investments and our particular focused arena, HYIPs. Few days back, Curt invited me to check out a free tool which he has developed for everyone. (Curt runs ponziscam.com and is pretty sharp when it comes to sniffing scams)

    DD Toolbar

    Let’s take a look.

    Installation

I had DD Tool bar installed on Firefox 2, quick and painless. Easy and fast. The file size is really negligible (257kb). An uninstaller is available as well if you’re not happy with the free tool that Curt is providing you.

After installing the tool, an adware and virus scan was done to make sure there’s no spyware and viriii is in my workstation. Results: Free from nuisance.

Take note, this tool is IE compatible too.

    Usage

We have a few features here.

A Searchbar for you to do instant googling of items you are interested in. This is the most useful feature among the rest of the goodies that Curt has for you. Checking on a site has never been more easier.

You can choose to check it’s Whois on the owner’s information (if any, usually blocked), Alexa Traffic Details (people are really concerned on the trend of the site, especially for surfs), Wayback Machine (a good archive of how the site looks like millions of years ago), HotSurf and HotHYIP Scam lookup (I don’t really use this, so hmmn). Link Popularity (I’m not sure whether this has any use for DD purposes, but it’s pretty interesting to see whether the site is popular), Site Spellcheck (For you to check whether the admins are eloquent in their English?), GetMeta Data (You can roughly tell what type of target audience the site is looking at this way), Aboutus Wiki (Something new, maybe I should write something on this wiki on our homepage), Whitepage reverse lookup (One of the important tool for you when you’re checking on a number for Due Diligence), Sec Edgar Search (Very useful for you to check on SEC’s database for any scam signs) and Ebay.

Msgs - Messages coming from DD Toolbar site, with announcements like which forums/ blogs has been added to the bar.

Blogs - Good selection of HYIP Blogs that is bringing most of the news in the arena. HEY LOOK! No Bullshit HYIP Blog is featured too!

Forums - The big forums that deals with HYIPs are listed here. I personally like Safe-list pretty well.

Money - Frankly, I think this is a place where Curt can improve in or take away. The links here aren’t really relevant to the topic that’s stated.

Monitors - HYIP Monitors are listed here, so if you’re a fan of monitors, have fun :) No monitor sites are in yet though.

A link to Skype (awesome VOIP software that allows you to talk to your friends as if you’re using a normal phone), an email notifier (that allows you to add your POP3s and web based mails) and a weather forecast tool.

    Conclusion

The toolbar in general is a good idea. I find the RSS feeds in particular very useful. It’s organised in a way that you can check for updates easily without visiting the sites often in a glance. The list of forums is good enough for anyone who’s interested in HYIPs as well.

The best part is the search bar which allows you to check on a site quickly with reliable sources.

    What could be improved

Skype icon need not be there as it’s not relevant (it could be included on the Msgs instead to tell people to try Skype). The climate report could be taken out as well.

The list in Msgs and Money could be improved. From what I see, users are allowed to make suggestions to what sites is to be included in the bar, I think it’s a good thing. Sites should be properly screened before adding to the bar as well. I’m sure there’s many people now (especially site owners) would want their page to be included in the bar.

Also, since Curt is a specialist in scam sniffing (program busting forte), he should include update messages on possible scams in Msgs as well, that ought to rake up the use of the tool bar by a hundred fold.

There’s still room for further improvement on the kind of tools that should be included in the bar.

    Recommended?

If the above mentioned improvements are made, this tool could be indispensable. You can try it here and if you don’t like it, just uninstall it! ;)

It’s really nice. I know that MMG has also its own bar, but haven’t really tested it out since they give me the more “commercial” feeling.

Hope your bar will have more features that’ll aid the DD processes soon!
