Here’s the next episode of the Debit Card Series with Goldex’s Debit Card. Goldex has been around for quite sometime, with a GDCA accredition for exchanging business.
Card: Goldex
Cost: $50.00
Validity: Not Stated
Fees: Register with them and then logon to this page
Ordering
It’s easy. Register with them and buy a card using the normal E-gold interface. Pay to their account and note the batch number. Copy the batch number and paste to their order form. An ID has to be sent, which means you aren’t totally anonymous when you’re using the card, same as with the rest of the cards which I’ve came across.
Delivery
Delivery took about 5 - 7 days after payment. According to the order page, there was a shortage then, so we couldn’t really judge and base on my order. Maybe I can check with Leo from DrunkonLife after he gets his.
No activation is needed. A piece of instruction was attached to it with directions to your PIN. Though there wasn’t instructions attached on how to fund your card (-Minus point), but maybe Goldex thinks that its pretty self explanatory that you can log on to their site to do the transactions.
Card Loading Time
Card was loaded with $100 and it took a day plus for the funds to reach me. An acknowledgement was sent when I load the card (+plus) but there was none coming back when the card was funded. (So the 1 day plus time loading might not be accurate since I have to check manually via the site constantly to see when it has been loaded)
It costs me $6 to get the card loaded. Which means its $6 + 4% for any loading. (It’s hefty, compared to the old Gcard which gives instant funding at 5%)
Card Loading Options
You can do E-gold, E-bullion Gold, E-bullion E-currency, Pecunix and E-Money with this card. Talking about multi tasking card hmm.
Withdrawal
The card uses STAR and PLUS network, so withdrawing from your nearby friendly ATM machine shouldn’t be an issue. (+plus point)
There’s no way to check your balance from the site, so do load and withdraw whatever that you need from time to time in case you forget about the balance in your card. To check your card’s balance you can use the ATM’s card balance option but its pretty costly. Each transaction cost you like $2.50 on the ATM machine. (-minus point)
Card based
The card uses the same network and issuing bank as Chronocash.
The Crap
- Expensive Card
- Huge fees when it comes to loading
- No web interface for balance check
- There should be instructions on loading (Still, its something negligible for Goldex as compared with Chronocash’s)
- Notice should be sent via email to let user know card has been loaded
The Good
- Good track records as an exchanger and GDCA accredited
- No activation needed (Saving alot of hassle)
- Quick loading (1 day plus turn around)
- E-gold, E-bullion Gold, E-bullion E-currency, Pecunix and E-Money loading
- Withdrawing your funds with PLUS network of ATMs is a breeze
You can order a card from Goldex and let me know your experiences with the card too by dropping me a note.

Actually when I compared the fees to these I was paying to Cash-evo and XL, they are a bit lower.
The biggest advantage for me is the inability to check balance online.
Also, my card was not recognized in one ATM with PLUS logo (but worked in another). I would be much happier if it was a Maestro/Cirrus card
I think we can’t see much of a Maestro/ Cirrus getting a piece of this debit card business action since we don’t really see them much hanging around.
Yea, the balance check is a real hassle.
As I had said before, it took GoldEx ONE MONTH to fund my e-Gold account after I had send them a bank draft with no reason given.
My bank had checked and confirmed that the bank draft was credited to their bank account within 3 days after I had send it.
I will not touch them with a 10 foot pole.
Don’t do business with them or you will regret it. Just mark my words….
John, when did that happen and how much was it? I remembered having problems too with them when I started using an exchanger’s service, but that was really a long time ago.
My case happened in April 2004 and the amount send was US$2000.
I still have all the transaction details with me as proof. I had contacted Marco that time but received no reply from GoldEx and VERY BAD customer service from them.
So I advise all to think 3 times before they get their new card. Basically why would one get this card when their customer service is so POOR !
I think I did have a funding issue with them as well in ‘04 with a bigger amount.
But to discredit them because of an earlier funding issue might be unfair to them. I’ll continue to fund with the card to see if there’s anything bad to feedback to the readers.
I haven’t really had chance to contact the Support side yet as I haven’t hit any kind of hitch with them.
Thanks for sharing John! Keep them coming in!
Hello
I have taken a note of your suggestions regarding the info sent upon mailing and about the email confirmation of card loaded, and both are being worked on right now and should be modified in the next 24 hours or so.
As for the fees, they may appear to be high on small loads, say $150 and below because they incur our minimum $6 fee, but all other fees are lower compared to other programs using the same platform, as far as I know. Instant fudings, we are working on, I cannot promise a date but it should be weeks.
With regards to older issues posted here, yes we do make mistakes and I would just like to ask John if he could provide more details so I can look into the accident occurred to him. I can understand his hard feeling however we do try to learn from mistakes, but this is a difficult arena to be in, and the fact that we are operating since 2002 does make us a trustworthy organization despite occasional hiccups.
Thanks for the review!
Marco
Nice to see you coming here Marco! OOh, that’ll be awefully desirable if you can work with the fundings and the notification as well.
Let me know so I can do another funding to try it out!
Hey Jude, I just received my debit card today and funded it with $50.00…. waiting on it to process I’ll let you know how it goes.
Matt
Good luck to all who get the Goldex card…..
All I can say is once bitten twice shy. Because of their bad customer service and maybe misuse of my funds, I will definitely not use their card.
Even Jude acknowledged that he also got bad service from Goldex.
Perhaps they might have changed but then again they might not have.
So, good luck to you……………….
Hello John
as I said I would appreciate you providing more details on your bad experience so we can at least understand what went wrong and work on it to improve our service
regards
Marco
Update - we have now completed adding the email notification of funding completed. Working on the rest now!
regards
Marco
You can check card balance on speedywallet.com website.
Update - Balance and transactions are now accessible from the Goldex member’s area!
Marco
looks interesting. I’ll do some more research as I’m in the market for a new e-gold debit card. and I have been a Goldex member for a couple of years now.
but those fees look pretty unreasonable…
Yeah, I have used their exchange service a few times—no hitches, and I am definately looking for an ecurrency card which will last longer than a couple of months—I’ve still got my ING Gold buried somewhere in my desk with 1k in the balance. I recognize the volatility of our marketplace, but a little continuity and reliability would be nice.
I have successfully completed few transactions to my debit card lately, however now my latest transaction is pending for nearly 10 already. I have sent them numerous emails, however didn’t hear anything from them. I also tried contacting Marco via msn, however even while he is online he is not answering me. Maybe someone could suggest me how to solve this problem, as I have transfered reasonable sum and I would really not appreciate losing it just like this.
Ok, they have finally transfered my funds to my card. I am so much relieved!
I was quite happy with gCard and they promised something which doesnt seems true at this point! They promised the first week of Feb 2007 but…
Anyways, I am trying to get 1 since I have a good amount to withdraw now.
I have mixed feelings with Globex!
Any of you have any bad experience like losing money etc so far?
Currenty my mate has issue with his card not working. The guys from Goldex seem to be trying to help him, but so far his card gets always rejected. I’ll try to stay updated about his issue
My experience with goldex leaves alot to be desired. Customer service sucks. What does one have to do to get a response from them.
Apparently my e-mails are not going to them but out to never, never-land.
I sent (faxed) my verification to me on April 11th. Still no word and it is now the 17th. No message even saying that the verification was no good. Placed a credit card order. Needed the e-gold by the 17th.
Even stayed close to home so that when they called, I would not miss the call…..big waste of time. Now even if they call, their policy says that if its a credit card, will have to wait after verification 24-48 hours, will it do any good.
I sent them an e-mail just now stating that I needed to cancel this order because it would not do me any good to
get it now. But more than likely, I will never know if they received the e-mail. Always wondering if they are going to go ahead and charge my card or if they are going to cancel the order.
I do not want to ever have anymore to do with me–customer service sucks.
It seems Goldex S U C K S !
As mentioned by so many above of their bad experiences with Goldex, it seems logical to give Goldex a miss.
Unless you don’t mind losing your money, waiting forever to receive your funds and getting no customer service…………
DUH ! I think I will give them a MISS ! LOL……
Goldex finally got ahold of me (17th) and funded my egold in five hours…like they said when they called. I was so thankful because I was going out of time and would not be near my computer to do what I had to do. So, I will be able to complete what I have to do now.
They did this even after their site said that as a matter of policy they would not fund my egold for 24 to 48 hours after charging my credit card.
Isn’t it ironic Nancy, that as soon as you complain and discuss how bad Goldex customer support is on this forum, you receive a response and your get your egold funded. Marco is the owner of Goldex and he periodically checks this board, so there you have it, anytime you have a question or want to fund egold, just come here and post a message and voila! within no time you have your customer service.
ROFL……. Doesn’t that make Jude’s blog the unofficial customer service counter for Goldex ?
Isn’t good customer service, speedy transaction and quick response the basics of a good pay processor or ecurrency exchanger ?
I guess Goldex is not one of the good ones but one of those that have to be kicked or nudged hard inorder to get it to move or response. Or perhaps Nancy is actually Macro in disguise. LOL…………….
Not sure what is happening now?! Put in a deposit to have my card funded this past weekend Apr. 28th. Now into Tuesday, and the
order is still not done. Order # DF-1256. Marco, if you reading this board can you assist ??
My card was funded late Tuesday night. Phew !! Thanks goes out to Marco for completing the transaction and also
for emailing me the reason for the delay.
I have been trying to figure out what is happening with the customer service of goldex
This is my problem:
1. I was loading my card with certain amount and they said that is completed when I went to the ATM and check the balance of my card they still not loaded (After 3 hours of completed). I emailed them and fixed but without an answer
2. Now that is loaded in my card I went to withdraw and it says that is declined! and checked balance of my card and still there. Please goldex answer to my last support ticket at least!.
Best regards!
Please note your email was sent Saturday night, and I ask you all PLEASE to take a look at our working hours as published on the website. At the moment we do NOT work 24/7! Granted we can be late at times although with the current situation at egold I would expect people to be more sympathetic, however if you send a mesasge Saturday night, I believe it is quite normal that NO reply is received given that our working hours do NOT include sat-sun!
As per your query, see below answer as sent you this morning via the internal message system at GoldEx
Hello
please note i do not see ANY attempt to withdraw funds since the load, only 4 balance inquiries,
Please do try to withdraw the funds and advise of the outcome, the funds are loaded and available on the card
regards
Marco
June 13th. Goldex.net website appears to be down. Made a debit card deposit as well…. hope the site is back up soon.
IF any one has anyway to contact Marco at Goldex ((besides the useless MSN messenger and ICQ ways.. oh yea and besides email. I have 4 of them)) I would appreciate it, I have been trying to get my goldex card funded for almost a week now, its getting quite ridiculous with no communication from their customer service department.
Any help would be useful
