Beware of Emails from E-gold, Paypal, Amazon, Ebay and More
Internet SecurityTags: amazon, E gold, ebay, Paypal, Phish Email, Phishing.
Let’s start the day by identifying mails you should ignore. Just received this 2 days ago with the header ‘Please update your account informations before 30 september 2007 for your security‘. Whoops, it’s already 1st October!
For Education Purpose Only
Opened the mail for fun (and educational purpose, else the usual these type of mails goes to the thrash straight away, I suggest you do that too)
Put your mouse over the link and you’ll see the email brings you to a site that’s not even related to E-gold at all. Do note some phishing experts has registered something similar to E-gold’s site for their targets to log in (Remember e-qold.com two years back?)
Points to Note
- E-gold or even any other sites for that matters will not ask you to update your security settings, account information or sensitive data. Chances that you received emails from ‘Paypal’, or ‘Amazon’, or even ‘Ebay’ who asked you to log in to alter your personal information are usually fakes.
- Just delete these emails when they hit your inbox since the authenticity of the mails is dubious in the first place. If you are worried about your E-gold, Paypal or whichever accounts for that matters, head to your browser, key in the exact url of the service that you worry about and login for information from the source.
On a really relieve note, take a look at the security feature of Firefox browser and the efficiency of E-gold on phishing sites.
Yerp, the phishing site is suspended.
